Our industry is facing a bigger crisis than we ever imagined. The SABC’s turn-around strategy involves cutting their expenditure on local production by up to R500-million over the next year. As an industry we are facing our biggest challenge yet.

2008 RFP’s delayed, 2009 RFP’s frozen, re-commissions deferred, productions cancelled… The combination of the above is part of the proposed turn-around strategy being proposed and, as far as we aware, implemented.

This is an urgent call to all TVIEC members, production houses, actors, crew, post-producers, musicians and concerned members of the industry to join us for an emergency mass meeting of the TVIEC. We need to report back on our meetings with the communications minister, the minister’s task team, the interim SABC board and SABC management. Together we need to decide on our response to the crisis we are facing.

We also need you to bring any details you have of your company’s unsuccessful dealings with SABC on matters of insurance, asset registry and outstanding final payments.

Please drop everything and attend this crucial meeting – and forward this mail to anyone who might want to attend. Our future depends on it.
