Doc Love Cape Town - Monday 12 July 2010

Obz Café Theatre and the Documentary Filmmaker’s Association present Doc Love, a showcase of thought-provoking and entertaining independent documentary film. The first documentary featured next week Monday, 12 July will be Maak It Aan directed by Nadine Cloete.

Maak It Aan is a short documentary about Cape Town based Afrikaans MC Jitzvinger a.k.a Quinton Goliath. The film follows this versatile artist as he travels to festival in South Africa and abroad passing the message of humanism, respect and solidarity. Jitzvinger reflects on social conditions as well as his views on culture.

The documentary is also a meditation on language and heritage, a topic that’s particularly interesting in the current resurgence of Afrikaans in the main stream music arena in the country.

Nadine Cloete will be in attendance. She did the documentary as part of her Honours project at the University of Cape Town and it went on to screen as several events including the 11th Encounters Film Festival and the Africa in the Picture Festival in the Netherlands last year. Cloete works as a director and production manager.

Doc Love will screen more documentaries every Monday, with titles including Kurt Orderson’s Prodigal Son ,Laura Meriläinen’s Next Door to Freedom and films from the IKON Series in the coming weeks.
