To significantly raise the profile of documentary films and filmmakers by publicly promoting awareness, support and viewership of Canadian and international documentary films across Canada and the world.
Why the Campaign?
* Once known internationally for its leadership role in development and innovation, documentary filmmaking in Canada is in peril of disappearing due to a lack of financial support for its creation.
* Over the past 5 years more than 2,000 people have been forced to leave their jobs in documentary production even before the effects of the economic downturn hit.
* Attendance at Hot Docs, Canada’s largest documentary film festival, has increased by an astounding 750% over the past decade.
