Mpumalanga Creative Art Forum launch
9th June 2011
Ehlanzeni District Municipal Conference Centre, Next to ABSA Square, Mbombela.
History of the MCAF
In July 2010, creative art industry stakeholders in Mpumalanga met under the auspices of DEDET`s Film and Video Indaba to discuss the film and video office establishment in the province and the formation of a stakeholder representative body was highlighted. It was unanimously agreed that there is a need for a stakeholder representative association,. Umndeni Multimedia Productions and a small team volunteered as an interim Coordinating Committee for extensive consultation within the industry and draft a constitution. This process culminated to and necessitated the convening of the MCAF launch on the 9th of June 2011.
The MCAF is motivated by lack of professional films produced by Mpumalangians. Some featured films done in Mpumalanga are all directed or dominated by foreign creative teams. MCAF believes that there is a lot of talent in Mpumalanga, lot of dynamic & creative writers/ directors are ready to make the difference within the local film industry.
We are here to provide a platform for best locally directed films that can compete with international productions. MCAF is the turning point with our local young people being recognized internationally. Mpumalanga youth, like Sfiso a most dynamic, professional and universal minded young individual who had participated in other international initiatives in New Delhi, India loaded with fresh and vibrant ideas and technical know-how will boost this industry in the province.
MCAF was established to nurture and develop the interests of creative people in Mpumalanga. MCAF is unique in that it can stimulate public discourse; reflect on social, political, cultural and current events in a very immediate way. It can explore history, commemorate heritage and unearth the mysteries of the universe. MCAF tell stories of ordinary and extraordinary people/communities – they celebrate, question, investigate and reflect.
The MCAF aims to create a unified voice for Mpumalanga creative people and gain recognition in South Africa. The association will address the specific needs of our industry role players and network with related industry bodies in the interests of members.
