The DFA MY TOWN winners were announced at the Encounters Documentary Festival, during an award ceremony sponsored by the Cape Film Commission on Saturday, 25 June.
The award ceremony was followed by a great party at DADDY COOL in Long Street, where everyone got together and celebrated our efforts.
The DFA MY TOWN NFVF SPARK AWARD went to Le Roux Schoeman for his 3-minute documentary, ZINE DINE, FATBOY & BOKKOM. The short film paints a moving portrait of fishing boats on the West Coast and the significance of their names to their owners.
The DFA MY TOWN CASH PRIZE, was awarded to WALK TO TOWN, a quirky story of 2 women from Walmer Estate who decide to walk to town everyday in an attempt to stay healthy. Their walk takes them past the empty land that once was District Six, a poignant reminder of a shameful past, brought home in a light-hearted, humorous manner. The film was a collaborative work by Anna Goldman, John Edwards, Renee Roussouw and Gillian Benjamin.
Congratulations to our winners and finalists!
